Pigmentation Treatment

What is Pigmentation?

Pigmentation is a common condition where areas of the skin may be darker or lighter than the surrounding skin, resulting in an uneven complexion.

Pigmentation comes in many forms, including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), and hypopigmentation. There are several factors that cause pigmentation, including genetics, hormonal imbalance, acne, eczema, injury scars, sun damage, certain medications, and more.

In many cases, pigmentation can be prevented and treated. Effective precautions include wearing a broad spectrum SPF (factor 30 or above), avoiding picking scabs and popping pimples, and treating active acne

If you have pigmentation and are struggling to get rid of it, OC Skin has a range of proven treatments that can help you achieve a clearer, radiant, and more even complexion.

Our gentle yet effective Mela Peel Treatment is designed for all skin types, including sensitive and photosensitive skin. It contains a powerhouse of exfoliating actives, including salicylic acid, lactic acid, arbutin, and retinol, which combine to lighten pigmentation and smooth the skin. This treatment is brilliant for PIH and melasma.

Our exfoliating Trichloroacetic (TCA) Peel treatment is a less intense alternative to the more advanced chemical peels. Instead of shedding the outer layers of the skin, as a regular chemical peel would, our TCA Peel absorbs into the skin and sloughs away dead and damaged skin cells from the inside out. It exfoliates just as effectively as other chemical peels while offering minimal post-treatment peeling and no downtime.

Our signature Crystal Peel Treatment combines salicylic acid with mandelic acid and citric acids to encourage cell turnover and fade pigmentation spots and PIH. This potent peel also helps clear acne, smooth skin texture, shrink pore size, and regulate healthy sebum, making it a wonderful all-in-one treatment!

The innovative Lumecca treatment uses groundbreaking intense pulse light (IPL) laser technology to diminish pigmented areas, including dark spots and PIH. This treatment is tailored to target discolouration, signs of acne, pore size, and overall skin texture, making it ideal if you have multiple skin concerns you want to tackle.

Our bespoke Microneedling treatment is a more invasive solution that involves making lots of tiny pricks in the skin. This boosts blood flow, increases natural collagen, exfoliates the skin, and encourages the healing of damaged cells, resulting in a radiant, smooth, and flawless complexion.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Our holistic pigmentation treatments can be applied to any areas of concern across your face and neck. Popular areas we treat include the forehead, cheeks, nose, and jawline. While many of our pigmentation treatments can be applied all over, we can also spot-treat specific problem areas after assessing your skin’s overall condition.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

Our pigmentation treatments work in many wonderful ways to clear, smooth, and even out your complexion.

If you’re having one of our chemical peel treatments applied to your face, you can expect a subtle tingling, warm sensation during treatment. Depending on the strength of the peel, which will be discussed prior to application, you may also experience some redness, skin sensitivities, and skin flaking for 5-14 days after treatment.

If you have our Lumecca treatment or bespoke Microneedling, it’s normal to experience a slight discomfort during treatment — don’t worry, we can provide topical numbing cream to minimise this.  You may also experience redness and slight skin flaking post-treatment.

How Will You Decide a Treatment For Me?

In order for our skin experts to decide the right treatment for you, you’ll have an in-depth 1 on 1 consultation to discuss your concerns and your skin goals. Our team will then evaluate your overall skin condition using our innovative skin scanning technology. Once our experts have gathered all the important information, and with your goals in mind, they will develop a customised treatment plan designed to help you achieve flawless, glowing skin.

Can I get Pigmentation Treatments If I’m Pregnant?

We do not recommend our pigmentation treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as they may present certain complications that can harm your baby. However, once you are no longer pregnant and breastfeeding, our skin experts will happily help towards your goals.

Get in touch with our friendly team to find pigmentation treatments we offer and book your comprehensive skin consultation.

How Shall I Prepare for My Pigmentation Treatment?

As many of our pigmentation treatments are exfoliating, we advise you to pause any active skincare in your routine at least five days prior to your treatment. We also ask that you arrive at your appointment with no makeup on.
